“Being in a group is the experience of the convergence of an individual’s world of experience with those of others. This is the starting point for group psychotherapy.”

“On Group Therapy,” Dan Bloom, lecture, 2010

For some people, group therapy is a more effective mode of psychotherapy than individual therapy and for many others it is a beneficial addition to their own individual therapy.

Group therapy can help people overcome interpersonal obstacle by giving them an environment where they can feel comfortable among others with similar distress and concerns. This sense of being understood by and understanding others is an important part of the healing process.

Group therapy is a safe and effective “laboratory” to explore and experiment with new approaches learned through individual therapy.
